1. Do you provide residential garbage collection?

York County Solid Waste Collection & Recycling does not provide door-to-door garbage collection services.

2. Can you provide contact information for private garbage collection companies in the area?

Look online or in the phone book yellow pages under "garbage" or "trash". If you notice that a neighbor has garbage/recycling collection ask them to share company information. Many homeowners associations also maintain a list of service providers.

3. Can you help with roadside litter?

If the litter is posing a danger to traffic call 911. For information on how to have roadside litter or illegal dumping picked up or information on how to volunteer to assist with a cleanup, contact Solid Waste Collection & Recycling at 803-628-3181. Contact Solid Waste Collection & Recycling.

4. Do you rent dumpsters?

York County Solid Waste Collection & Recycling does not rent dumpsters. Look online or in the phone book yellow pages for a private garbage company to rent a dumpster or call the local government where you live to ask if they rent dumpsters.

5. Where can I dispose of yard debris?

The Collection & Recycling Centers do not accept yard debris for disposal.

6. May I have permission to take something from a Collection & Recycling Center?

The county ordinance does not allow anything to be taken by the public from a Collection & Recycling Center.

8. What are the hours of Collection & Recycling Centers?

The 16 Collection & Recycling Centers hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday
7 am - 7 pm
(Closed Wednesday, Sunday and holidays)

Holiday closings are posted at each center. Notifications are sent to all local media and posted on the York County Government website. Visit the Collection & Recycling Centers page.

9. How can I get involved with the Adopt-A-County Road program?

Individuals or groups may adopt a 1 or 2 mile stretch of a county road. The office provides bags, vests, safety training and collection of bags.

10. Can I drop off a major appliance or large furniture item at the Collection & Recycling Centers? Will someone unload it for me?

The Collection & Recycling Centers accept appliances in the scrap metal box and large bulky furniture items in the miscellaneous box. Please bring someone with you to assist you in unloading the items when you deliver them to the Collection & Recycling Centers for disposal.

11. How can I dispose of paint?

Latex paint is accepted on a daily basis at the Collection & Recycling Centers and citizens may bring up to 10 gallons per visit. Oil based paint and stains are accepted at the Household Hazardous Material Collection events on the first Saturday of March and October from 8 am - 12 noon at the York County Public Works facility at 220 Public Works Road, York, SC.

12. Where can I dispose of antifreeze?

Antifreeze is accepted at the Collection & Recycling Centers for recycling or bring it to the York County Household Hazardous Material Collection Event the first Saturday of March or October from 8 am - 12 noon at the York County Public Works facility at 220 Public Works Road, York, SC.

13. Why are the Collection & Recycling Centers closed on Wednesday?

The York County Solid Waste Collection & Recycling Department performs maintenance and upkeep of the sites on Wednesdays.

14. Why can I only take small amounts of garbage to the Collection & Recycling Centers?

Space is limited at the centers and designed disposal of waste generated by households. If you arrive with a large load, you may be asked to take the waste to the landfill.
