York County statement concerning the Bethel-Lake Wylie Land Acquisition and Preservation Parks District (BLWLAPPD).
Until further notice all activities at the BLWLAPPD properties are suspended, except for routine maintenance. At this time, the five-member board which oversees the tax district has one member. Board actions cannot be taken and events cannot be organized and held without board members in place. York County Council must appoint new board members, and once seated that board must take several actions: By ordinance, the BLWLAPPD Board must publish a calendar of at least quarterly scheduled meetings, elect officers and approve minutes of past meetings.
In addition, York County Government is taking several other steps in this matter. Pending the Board’s recommendation, a superintendent will be hired to manage the BLWLAPPD parks and park events, act as staff liaison to the tax district board, and report directly to the County Parks Director. Secondly, a masterplan is being created for all park properties in the tax district. That plan is nearing completion and will be presented to County Council once the Board has an opportunity to meet and provide its recommendations on the plan.
In the interim, the tax district will continue to function and collect funds as approved by voters in November 2020.
Finally, the BLWLAPPD does not operate any official social media pages. The website, www.yorkcountygov.com is the official York County Government website, and the only official source of information concerning any developments, plans or updates about the BLWLAPPD.
This page will be updated as needed.
