Additionally, officials urge voters to properly vet information concerning voting before making assumptions all rumors are true.

“Prior to almost every election, we hear about misinformation being circulated within the community,” Wanda Hemphill, Director of the York County Voter Registration and Elections office said. “Some people may be well-intentioned, whereas some may actually seek to create confusion. Regardless, misinformation can cause issues for our voters.”

Numerous phone calls have been received by York County Election Officials regarding postcards received from an unidentified group advising voters they are not registered to vote. “While this group may have good intentions, it has created some anxiety for our voters. “ Hemphill said. Of the voters who have called to check their information, all have been accurate and registered to vote, she said. “It could be the group just had some bad data,” Hemphill said.

York County Election Officials said the best way to follow election related information is to visit the York County Voter Registration and Elections Office website at www.yorkcountygov.com/vote or www.facebook.com/vreofyc

Voters may also contact the elections office by email at [email protected] or by calling the office at 803-684-1242 or 803-909-7194.

Voters are strongly encouraged to check their information online at www.scvotes.gov and update incorrect or out-of-date information.
