York County continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and is taking precautions to ensure the health, safety and security of its employees and citizens. Therefore, York County will temporarily suspend the operation of the York County Material Recovery Facility (MRF) effective Monday, March 23, 2020. The process of mixed recycling requires a staff of 20+ employees working in close proximity. Additionally, staff is in direct contact with materials collected throughout the community.
With the MRF out of operation, this will temporarily suspend the processing of unsorted, mixed recycling. York County will continue to process any source separated material (sorted cardboard, metal, and paper etc.) that may be delivered to the MRF or collected at the 16 Collection & Recycling centers. York County will continue to accept mixed recycling from our citizens and MRF customers; however, the mixed recyclables will be diverted to the transfer station for landfill disposal until further notice.

York County encourages residents to continue with their recycling programs to ensure a smooth transition back; once processing can resume. The County has no intentions at this time to change the operations at the 16 Collection & Recycling Centers or at the Solid Waste Disposal Facility.
