Therefore, York County wants to ensure that our residents are up-to-date on York County services and COVID 19 information. York County is NOT under a "Stay-At-Home-Order:
York County continues to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in South Carolina and in particular York County. Daily, York County Emergency Management staff are in contact with State Government Officials, State Emergency Management personnel and SCDHEC officials regarding the spread of COVID-19 in the state and in York County. With that said, York County will continue to follow the guidance of our state leaders. If our state leaders institute a “Stay-At-Home-Order,” or any measure like that, York County will follow suit.

- All York County Library branches are closed until further notice
- The Culture & Heritage Museums are closed until further notice
- York County will not disconnect water & sewer services for nonpayment’s during the duration of the Governor’s Executive Order.
- York County will allow various non-essential employees to work remotely or from home
- All York County sponsored community meetings, Committee meetings and Boards & Commission meetings have been cancelled.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.
The virus that causes COVID-19 probably emerged from an animal source, but is now spreading from person to person. The virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
If you develop emergency warning signs for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately. Emergency warning signs include*:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion or inability to arouse
- Bluish lips or face
*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning.
Take steps to protect yourself:
- Clean your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Take steps to protect others:
- Stay home if you’re sick
- Cover coughs and sneezes.
- Wear a facemask if you are sick. (If you are not sick, you do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for someone who is sick.)
- Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. Most common EPA-registered household disinfectants will work
What to do if you are sick:
- Stay home except to get medical care
- Separate yourself from other people and animals in your home
- Call ahead before visiting your doctor
- Wear a facemask if you are sick
- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Clean your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
- Avoid sharing personal household items
- Clean all “high-touch” surfaces everyday
- Monitor your symptoms. Seek prompt medical attention if your illness is worsening (e.g., difficulty breathing).
- Stay at home until instructed to leave
