The York County Office of Emergency Management and The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) received a notice late Saturday, June 29, of gasoline being pumped into an incorrect port of an underground tank that serves the Lake Club Marina, in Rock Hill, near Lake Wylie. The incident resulted in an estimated 4,000 gallons of fuel being released into the environment.
Current evaluation shows the release is contained directly under the underground storage tank and has not impacted the lake.
SCDHEC is working with the owner of the tank and other contractors to conduct environmental monitoring and remediation.
The York County Office of Emergency Management is working closely with SCDHEC and believes the incident is stable and does not require immediate action from the public.
SCDHEC’s Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program is coordinating cleanup efforts and for questions please contact the UST Program at (803) 898-0589.
