[ARCHIVED] York County Partners with Tega Cay on Recycling

bin

At the February 19th meeting, Tega Cay City Council voted to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement for Recycling Services. This agreement between York County and the City of Tega Cay will allow the City’s garbage and recycling hauler to utilize the York County recycling facility located in York. With York County Council’s approval at their March 4th meeting, Tega Cay will begin their new recycling program March 11th, 2019. This is a wonderful partnership between the County and City.

Mayor David O’Neal had this to say “After many weeks of hard work, Tega Cay is happy to offer recycling to its residents again. Beginning March 11th, we will partner with York County to bring responsible and convenient recycling to our curbside solid waste customers. We all appreciate the patience of our residents as we work through this difficult period.”

Councilmember Heather Overman added “I’m am so grateful to have a recycling program again in Tega Cay that is convenient and useful to our residents. I want to thank our residents for their patience while we worked behind the scenes to make this happen. I also need to give credit to the City and County staff that made this a reality. It’s only when we work together that we can solve the problems that impact the people we represent.  While this is a great step forward, I need to emphasize that folks still need to be conscious of the materials they are putting in to their recycling carts and to keep contamination in mind.”

“York County welcomes this recycling partnership,” said York County Chairman Michael Johnson. “County staff and Tega Cay staff have collaboratively worked together on a solution that will assist residents in their efforts to have a positive impact on their community and the natural environment.  The County and local municipalities, like Tega Cay, should always strive to find ways to work together for the betterment of our community and citizens.  Hopefully this is just the first of many initiatives between York County and our city partners.”

Tega Cay residents will be able to recycle more items in their Signature Waste carts. For a detailed list on those items. Please visit www.tegacaysc.gov. While residents will not be able to place glass into their recycling carts, they can bring sorted glass to the Tega Cay Public Works facility or to the Baxter Collection and Recycling Center located on Hwy 160.
