Update September 15, 2018 10 a.m.

A conference call was held at 9 a.m. to discuss response for Tropical Storm Florence. Currently it is west of Myrtle Beach, traveling about 3 ½ miles per hour.


In York County, we can expect saturated ground, localized flooding, trees down, and power outages.

Before 4 p.m. today winds are forecast at 24 mph sustained with 34 mph gusts. From 4 -10 p.m., winds will increase slightly to 28 mph sustained and 39 mph gusts. Rainfall is expected at 1-2 inches per hour, with heaviest rains expected 4-10 p.m. tonight.  Winds die down around noon tomorrow, 10 mph sustained and no gusts. The projected rain total for the entire event is 8-10 inches.


We want to remind citizens of the following:

  • York County Emergency Management does not provide sandbags for public use. Residents and businesses can purchase sandbags from local hardware stores or landscape companies.
  • Those interested in volunteering can visit www.volunteersc.org.
  • Red Cross shelters and pet shelter are open.  Details available at https://www.yorkcountygov.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=110
  • Call the Public Advisory Line at 803-325-2400 for information.
  • Power outages should be reported to your power provider.
