YORK COUNTY, SC (Sept. 10, 4:34pm)- South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has ordered an evacuation of the entire coastal area of South Carolina beginning no later than Noon, Tuesday Sept. 11. This evacuation is NOT for York County residents.
Evacuees will be heading inland. Therefore, the York County Office of Emergency Management does expect an increase of people in York County.
“Please be vigilant of the increase of population in York County,” said Chuck Haynes, York County Emergency Management Director.
The York County Office of Emergency Management is at OPCON-4. This means that staff is in an increased awareness and planning state; as well as, coordinating with the State and preparing for possible effects from Hurricane Florence.
“We are encouraging York County residents, especially those with medical needs, to be prepared and review your emergency plans,” said Haynes. “At this time shelters have not been opened, and will only be opened if deemed necessary.”
