Thunderstorms will develop quickly from the west this afternoon across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia. The thunderstorms will likely develop first over the mountains during the early afternoon hours, then migrate over the foothills and through the Piedmont through the mid to late afternoon hours. All of the activity should move east of the area by sundown. Some of these thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts and hail as large asquarters. A tornado or two is not out of the question. Locally heavy rainfall and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning will accompany thestronger storms as well, however, the fast movement of the storms should limit the threat of flash flooding.
