School Evacuations

Schools within the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) of the nuclear station have emergency plans in place. If an evacuation was ordered, all children attending school within the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) will be moved to designated relocation centers/schools. These may be different reception centers/shelters than those designated for your home.

Schools will follow their evacuation procedures to protect your student’s health and safety. Children in these schools will be taken to one of the relocation centers/schools listed in the designated station's chart on this page. Your child will be cared for at this location by school and county officials until you arrive.

Children who live in the 10-mile EPZ and attend a school outside the EPZ will be kept at their schools by school officials until they are picked up by their parents.

When you have determined the designated relocation school for your child’s school, you may pick up your child at the relocation center/school and stay at the evacuation shelter for your zone or pick up your child at the relocation center/school and stay somewhere other than the evacuation shelter, as long as you are at least 10 miles from the plant.

If your children are ever home alone, tell them what to do in an emergency. Be sure they know which zone they are in.
