Fire Prevention Technicians

The Technician Division of York County Fire was created in 1999 to help reduce the amount of time the volunteer fire departments were spending to complete Insurance Services Office (ISO) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

Responsibilities

The Technician Division is responsible for annual testing and preventative maintenance of all fire hydrants in the unincorporated areas of the county. This testing ensures that all fire hydrants are kept in service and available for fire department use. This is a requirement of the ISO, which helps maintain the insurance rates assigned to the individual fire districts.
Technician Division
Fire Prevention Technicians also conduct annual tests on all self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) used by the York County Fire Service. This includes fit testing SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) masks in accordance with OSHA regulations for each certified firefighter.

Other duties include:
  • Maintaining and developing rural water sites.
  • Pre-fire planning of all large buildings in the county fire districts.
  • Assisting fire departments in maintaining other ISO and OSHA required records.
