Accreditation
The International Association of Coroner's Medical Examiners (IACME) has over 70 years of experience in the presentation of educational seminars for the purpose of assisting Coroners and Medical Examiners in the performance of their duties. This commitment is enshrined in the association's mission statement, "The International Associations of Coroners and Medical Examiners is committed to advancing the accurate determination of the cause and the manner of death through the utilization of science, medicine and the law."
Over the past year, the York County Coroner's Office has been preparing for an accreditation audit. In January of 2015, we hosted 2 evaluators from the IACME to review policy and procedures utilized by the office to ensure that they met or exceeded international standards in death investigations. The office underwent an intensive review of 288 standards set forth by IACME. In order to obtain accreditation's, the office must pass 100% of mandatory standards and 90% of all applicable standards. We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in being accredited.
We are 1 of only 4 offices in the state to achieve such an accomplishment. The Coroner, Sabrina Gast, and staff are honored to serve the citizens of York County and will continue to strive to provide the most up to date and professional approach in death investigations.
