Transferring Tags

Tags

If you have a valid tag from a vehicle you sold, parked, or traded, you may be able to transfer that tag to a new vehicle as long as the name the new vehicle is titled to was on the title to the old vehicle. You are not required to pay personal property taxes on a new vehicle if you are transferring a tag. You will pay personal property taxes on the new vehicle in the month the tag you transferred comes up for renewal. When you receive your tax bill, be sure the correct vehicle is listed. If not, contact the Auditor's Office for a corrected bill.

If you transfer a tag to a vehicle more than once, you are required to pay the difference in the tax amount between the vehicle you are transferring from and the vehicle you are transferring to.
