Probate Court also appoints conservators of minors who have received assets in their name and supervises the administration of their estates. It appoints conservators for adults judged incapacitated, approves wrongful death settlements, handles trust matters and commits people to the state mental hospital and substance abuse treatment facilities.
The Probate Court is located in the old Belk Building diagonally across the street from the York County Courthouse in downtown York. It is headed by an elected Probate Judge who serves a four-year term.
