SERVICE INFORMATION
· EQUIPMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
o York County Water/Sewer maintains the service line from the water main up to and including the meter. This includes the meter box.
o The property owner is responsible for everything beyond the meter up to and including all lines, problems and equipment inside and under the structure.
o The property owner is also responsible for sewer lines/problems from the house up to and including the sewer clean-out.
o Any Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) on the property is also owned and maintained by the property owner.
· AVOIDING CROSS-CONNECTIONS:
o Cross-connection is a point where it would be possible for drinking water to be contaminated by hazardous materials, such as lawn care chemicals.
o Cross-connection can be avoided by installing double-check valves, (backflow prevention devices) on outdoor faucets and the main line coming from an irrigation meter. Also, be careful to never leave a hose in a sink, bucket, tub or pool.
o Never use an attachment on your hose that dispenses any chemicals without a backflow device.
· IRRIGATION METERS:
o To avoid paying sewer charges on irrigation usage, you may have a second meter installed that will measure irrigation usage only for a $580 fee ($550 meter set fee and $30 activation fee.) Click HERE to download an irrigation meter application and additional information for residential use. Please allow one (1) week for an irrigation meter to be installed after we receive your application and payment.
o PLEASE NOTE: During Stage 3 Mandatory Drought Restrictions, watering is not allowed and irrigation meters cannot be used or installed.
o REMEMBER TO ALWAYS USE WATER WISELY!

· LOW PRESSURE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS: (LPSS)
o Some properties located near Lake Wylie require a Low Pressure Sanitary Sewer System. This system is owned and maintained by the property owner, and certain documents will need to be signed and notarized by the property owner. If your property has LPSS, you will be informed of this and the required documents provided to you when you apply for service. For more information on LPSS, please contact Rick Carter in the York County Engineering department at 803.684.8571.
· WHERE YOUR WATER COMES FROM:
o York County Water/Sewer Department purchases water to be distributed to our customers from The City of Rock Hill and Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department (CMUD). Both of these water providers draw their water from Lake Wylie and the Catawba River.
