There are seven certified political parties in South Carolina. Each General Election year, these political party candidates and petition candidates are rotated in their ballot position. For example, the entry that is first on the ballot this election year will be in the last position in the General Election in 2008. For the election to be held on November 7, 2006 the sequence for candidate position is as follows:  United Citizens, Independence, Green, Republican, Libertarian, Petition, Democrat, and Constitution.

Non-Partisan candidates, such as school board trustees, are listed on the ballot in alphabetical order.

Straight Party Voting: Voting straight party will record a vote for all candidates within the same political party of your choice. A straight party vote does not include school board and other non-partisan candidates or questions.

Voting For Individual Candidates: Vote for the candidates you choose regardless of party affiliation.

Combination of Straight Party and Individual Candidate Voting: Vote straight party but you may also vote for one or more candidates that are not affiliated with your straight party vote. A vote will be recorded for each candidate listed under the party you choose EXCEPT where you indicated another preference.
