Functions

The York County GIS Addressing Division provides administrative planning for the addressing of structures and road naming.  The Addressing Division interprets and enforces all applicable laws, code ordinances and standards pertaining to addressing and posting physical addresses; provides information to the public regarding such requirements, arbitrates disputes on addressing issues, and resolves problems with property owners and necessary. 

York County Ordinance number 2395 and State Law Section 2347-60 provides that you must post your address number according to compliance instructions, failure to comply will result in code enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Calculates addresses for new residential and commercial projects.
  • Coordinates with police, fire, and Emergency Services departments to assure accuracy of addresses and street names for use by the 9-1-1 emergency system.
  • Creates inter-departmental vicinity maps upon request.
  • Modifies and Import digital plats onto the GIS System.
  • Creates and maintain addresses on the GIS System.
  • Performs address compliance to ensure correct, consistent addresses are used and posted.
  • Reports missing or damaged street sights; coordinates the replacement with the Public Works Department.
  • Assists and coordinates with municipalities in assigning and correcting addressing issues.
