Functions

Coordinates GIS mapping and information exchange efforts for York County Government.

Assists staff in any department with GIS instruction, field data collection, and map making.

Acts as keepers of the County GIS data assets but not as data editors.

York County Geographic Information Services (GIS) is both a division of the Management Information Technology (MIS) Department and a countywide program of spatial data and application development. GIS division staff is responsible for overseeing the County’s baseline digital spatial databases and for providing state-of-the-art mapping and data services to County departments, citizens, local governments, and businesses. While GIS staff in other departments are responsible for day to day departmental data maintenance, the GIS division of MIS is only the caretaker or holder of the information.
This Office Does

Maintains the GIS Online website for use by staff and citizens which enables anyone to browse or obtain spatial information.

Facilitates cooperative data sharing and coordination efforts among County departments to establish more efficient government workflow processes through appropriate usage of technology.

Provides copies of archived orthophotography for years 1970, 1980, and 1990

Provides instruction to map makers, data editors, and GIS field data collection staff in various departments.

Sell or distribute GIS data to citizen
