York County GIS Program Accomplishments

The York County GIS Division is part of the county MIS department.  Strategically positioned by county management adjacent to the IT Division within MIS, the county GIS program can coordinate efforts and build upon the infrastructure or backbone provided by IT staff.

The County GIS program strives to improve the efficiency of work and information flow wherever applicable in county government operations.  To accomplish this, a GIS Staff of two work with all county departments, citizens, other government entities, and the private sector to make certain that any need is met.

York County has achieved a great deal of success by completing data collection using existing in house staff instead of spending funds to hire consulting firms.  As a result, GIS data editors and users have an increased ownership in the county’s GIS data.

The following sections describe the accomplishments of the York County GIS program;
a. Data Maintained,
b. Coordination Efforts,
c. GIS enabled software deployed, and
d. Users
