Detention Ponds/Water Quality Ponds
Minimize
You may be aware that there is a detention pond or a water quality pond in your neighborhood. These are installed when the subdivision is constructed to control stormwater run-off and/or treat the water before leaving the subdivision and entering our lakes and streams. Most of these ponds are designed so that they should completely drain within 72 hours of a rainfall.

These ponds should also be kept clean and free of trees, brush and debris. Some of these ponds contain concrete or metal structures referred to as riser structures, which release the water at a predetermined rate from the pond. These structures should be in good working condition and should also be free of trash and debris. These ponds are not maintained by the County. It is up to the property owners or in some cases the Homeowner’s Association to maintain these ponds.

If you have a problem or questions about a detention pond or water quality pond in your neighborhood, please contact the Environmental Compliance Division for assistance.
