PUBLIC PROGRAMS/INVOLVEMENT
There are many ways that YOU can get involved to help keep our water clean!!!!
Adopt-A-Stream/Cove
Stream clean ups allow volunteers to work with York County on cleaning trash and recyclables out of York County’s streams. Stream clean ups help beautify our waterways, while helping to restore them to their natural ecosystem. Stream clean ups, have been successful in helping to remove ~10 tons of trash from York County’s waterways! Click here to learn more about York County's Adopt-A-Stream Program.

Storm Drain Marking
Storm drain marking allows volunteers to work with York County on placing “markers with messages” on storm drains. These markers are effective in discouraging would be polluters from dumping into the storm drainage system, but also educate citizens about stormwater pollution. Pictured below on the left is a typical storm drain marker. Markers are round, flat, and 3 ½ inches in diameter. Click here to learn more about York County's Storm Drain Marking Program.

1,000 Rain Gardens
York County is spearheading an initiative to develop 1,000 rain gardens within our county in order to curb the amount of stormwater entering our sewer systems, and to act as natural filters of pollutants before they enter our lakes and streams.
What are Rain Gardens?
Rain gardens take advantage of the water filtering qualities of native vegetation. They are shallow basins in which local vegetation is planted. The deep roots of the local plants absorb storm water runoff and filter it naturally, increasing the lifespan of local sewer systems, and saving you money!
